Guest Blogging: 5 Reasons You’re Getting Rejected

Regardless of what you may have heard through the SEO grapevine, guest blogging/posting, if done right, still works.

As long as you have the right intentions and are approaching credible and authoritative blogs, you will achieve more than just higher rankings.  A sound guest blogging strategy allows you to network with other well-known bloggers and, as a reult, build your brand.

A well thought out and sound guest blogging strategy is also a fantastic way to drive direct traffic to your website and build new and diverse audiences.

One problem that many website owners often face is rejection among larger more credible blog owners.

Even if you have the best website in the world, many bloggers will tend to ignore your proposal if you don’t pitch it the right way.

If you’re serious about guest posting and want to have high success rates on well-known blogs, take note of these five reasons bloggers may be rejecting your guest blogging proposal:

1. You’re Not Being Personal

If you’re not addressing the blog owner by their first name, this is a huge red flag. Beginning the proposal with “Hi” or “To whom it may concern,” tells a blogger that you’re not an avid reader and you’re just out there sending out as many emails as possible.

Even if you don’t read the blog often, make it an effort to find out who’s running the place. By being personal, you’re already going to stand out above the rest of the guest posting proposals they receive.

2. You Don’t Provide Examples

Even if you have a fantastic proposal, it’s going to do no good if you don’t include any writing examples. Your proposal should always have at least two to three guest posts that you have done in the past, along with the URLs. If you’re new to guest posting, it’s best to create a 500-word example and attach it in the email.

A well-known blogger will only want to post guest posts that are informative, grammar-free and from someone who knows what they are talking about. This example is going to show them your writing style and flow.

3. You Suggest Non-Relevant Topics

Nothing ticks a blog owner off more than by submitting a proposal that has nothing to do with their website. For example, if you were to submit a piece for a cat blog, do you think they would want to accept a blog post on jewelry?

Like finding out the blogger’s name, it’s extremely important that you find out what kind of articles they post. Do they post a lot of reviews? How long are their pieces? What kind of audience does the blog cater to?

What you’re going to want to do is go back and read at least five to 10 pieces to see what the blog is like. The more relevant your topic proposal is, the better your chances are going to become.

4. Your Links Are Non-Relvant, Commercial & Do Not Add Value

I don’t recommend that your guest blogging strategy should be focused around the sole purpose of obtaining SEO links,  but if that is your intention, bear this in mind… even if you submit an amazing topic, it doesn’t mean the blogger is going to be happy.

After you submit a topic, the next thing a blogger will look at is what you’re going to link back to. If that product isn’t relevant to their blog, they probably won’t want to work with you.

For example, if you’re targeting that cat blog, there’s probably a good chance that owner won’t want to link back to a website selling engagement rings.

That being said, always make sure that your product or website has something to do with that website because if it doesn’t, your email is going straight into the trash.

5. Your Guest Blogging Proposal Looks Automated

Never copy and paste your proposal to every single blog. If your email looks automated, then the blog owner will only assume your guest post will look the same way. As stated above, always make sure that you point out their name, address a few things you like about their blog and how your guest post could help. The more personable it sounds, the more likely the owner will respond.

If you’re serious about guest posting, it’s important that you’re targeting top-notch blogs. Usually, the harder a guest post is to land, the more powerful it could potentially be. As long as you keep things personable and follow the tips above, you’d be amazed the responses and results.
